Hope is a powerful thing. Even the faintest glimmer of hope can inspire a person to push through the hard times and strive for a better tomorrow. It can be the one thing that keeps a person going when things seem the hardest.
Who are you?
Sean Baugh - Artistic Director of the Turtle Creek Chorale and Associate Director of Music and Worship at Cathedral of Hope.
What does hope mean to you?
Hope can mean many things - depending on the need of the day. But currently, in this climate of bitterness, divisiveness, and distrust, HOPE means finding the ability to come together to find common ground. But when common ground CANNOT be found, and what’s “right” cannot be realized, then I also find hope in people willing to fight for what is right, either through protest, political action, the arts, and personal relationships.
Why do you refuse to give up hope?
I refuse to give up hope because that’s when “wrong wins.” The absence of hope leads to the absence of truth, love, fairness, and equality. And that’s exactly what “wrong” wants - for us to give up.
What is one piece of advice you would give to those that are struggling to hold on to their hope?
Love, fairness, and justice always win in the end. It might seem so far away, or not exist at all, but love will prevail in the end. The pendulum will always swing back from the darkness - sometimes it just takes a little push.
